✱✱ Book Review ✱✱ Rook by Miranda Lynn

We finally got some rain to cool things off a bit, so it's a perfect day to curl up in my favorite chair and read. This morning's book was the second in Miranda Lynn's Black Mountain Pack series, Rook.

Momma Says 3 out 5 stars⭐⭐⭐

Rook is well-written in first person, multi POV. The story is told, for the most part, from the perspectives of Rook and Jasmine with a chapter from Casey's perspective thrown in. It is novella length and I would consider this one a Paranormal Romance with a bit of Action included. The steam level is low, but there are adult situations and themes. Now, check out that cover! If that's supposed to be Rook, I want one! 😋

Blurb:
Rook is headed to Paratay unaware of the horrors that await him.

Reuniting with old friend and old secrets in the dark hear of Brazil he finds a world of lies designed to keep him from his true mate Jasmine.

Hidden behind the Alpha's doors, Jasmine waits for her chance for freedom. Finding her mate in the process is an unexpected surprise.

It's a dangerous world, but Rook will risk it all to purge the pride of evil, bond with Jasmine, and help the new Alpha, Casey, take her place as their first female leader.

Follow Rook to the edge of adventure- and beyond.

***

I quite enjoyed the first book in this series, Mack, and while Rook has an interesting premise, the characters are likable, and the author has a good writing style, I didn't connect with the story like I did in the first one.
It is a continuing story and if you haven't read the first book, things in this one may be somewhat confusing. The story is easy enough to follow, but there are references to things that take place in Mack
The story is fast-paced and emotional, especially the treatment of people under the old alpha's rule. I was a thrown by how quickly some of these people accept a new alpha and all the changes that are being implemented, considering the oppression they were living under.
Overall, I feel like the story had the potential to be really good, but it just felt too rushed, making it hard to become invested in everything going on.

Rook is available on Amazon and is listed in Kindle Unlimited.
