✱✱ Book Review ✱✱ Roaming Free by Odin Nightshade

I had the pleasure of reading the third book in the Omega Date Diaries series by Odin Nightshade, Roaming Free, and I have to say that this series just gets better and better.

Momma Says: 5 out 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Roaming Free is well-written in third person POV and fits very well into the Paranormal Romance genre. It is part of a series of MM, Alpha/Omega romances, but each book is a stand alone. It is steamy, so certainly an 18+ recommendation.

A shifter with a dangerous secret. An omega with a broken heart. A
chance encounter that will leave them both breathless.

***Roaming Free is a standalone novel; you don't need to read any of the other books in the OmegaDate Diaries series to enjoy this one.***
Crime writer Tarly Bowring can’t sleep at night. Haunted by memories of his troubled past—and the omnipresent threat of danger in his present—he isolates himself in his sprawling mansion far away from Capitol City, only daring to venture into civilization when he’s heavily medicated. That way, he knows he won’t shift at random and lose control.
It doesn’t help that he’s completely and utterly alone, with only quick and easy online hook-ups for company. But what would he do if he met somebody that he couldn’t discard after a few sexy camera chats?
Enter Roam Ashworth. If Roam finds an alpha on OmegaDate, then it won’t be his first trip around the block—he’s got a three-year-old son from his previous relationship to show for it. But there’s heartache there, not anger; his partner died in a car accident before Roam could even tell him he was pregnant, shattering his happily-ever-after forever.
Even now, finally ready to take a second shot at happiness, true love seems elusive. How is Roam supposed to find another mate when every alpha he encounters rejects him the second they catch wind of his son?
Desperate times call for desperate measures, but sometimes the brightest days are born of the darkest nights. Soon enough these two last-chancers cross paths, but will their secrets destroy any hope they have left? Either way, it’s much too late to walk away.

***
I've enjoyed all three books in Nightshade's Omega Date Diaries series, but this one is definitely my favorite so far and it's most certainly the most emotional. It's not an overly long story, around two to three hours read time, but there's a lot packed into that time. Tarly and Roam are keeping secrets as they get to know one another and their anxiety over those secrets is almost palpable. Tarly's situation is scary and heartbreaking, especially when he reveals his turbulent past and Roam's determination make the relationship into something real is like a ray of hope to the lonely Tarly.
Roaming Free is not one of those action-packed shifter tales of wars between rival packs. It is a romance, in every sense of the word. It's all about Tarly and Roam and their journey to happiness, and what a sweet, engrossing tale it is.
I have to add that as a writer, Tarly is working on a book throughout this story. I've seen this done before, but I have to say that for an author to add in pieces of another, completely separate, story in the middle of everything going on between the main characters, and make it just as interesting, takes talent. Nightshade pulled it off splendidly and even had me curious about the characters in the Tarly's story.
Overall, Roaming Free is a tale of love, loss, hope, and ultimately, happiness. It's a story of two people finding that special someone to share their life and make a family with. Oh, and an absolutely adorable toddler to lighten things up when they get a little heavy.

Roaming Free is available on Amazon (currently in paperback, but the ebook version will be coming).
