✱✱ Book Review ✱✱ Blood Moon by Lexi James

Blood Moon
The Druids Book 1
by Lexi James

Returning to Yellowstone could help him fulfill his destiny. Hiking Yellowstone could change her life.

After a falling out  with his father, Ronan Cormac ignored his family responsibilities and instead spent years as one of the most sought after agents in Hollywood, but too many superficial relationships had worn him down, making him long for a meaningful connection. In other words, the wolf shifter was ready for a mate and LA made it impossible for him to find one. Still, when his sister called him home, Ronan only reluctantly returned to Yellowstone to face his destiny, which meant he had to find his mate, complete the ritual before the blood moon, and thereby save the Druid pack.
When Autumn and her boyfriend started hiking Yellowstone one October weekend, she never imagined it would end with him humiliating her, dumping her, and leaving her alone in the wilderness. All she wanted was to find a guy who didn't want to change her. By the time Autumn dried her tears, snowflakes covered the trail, darkness had fallen, and her demise appeared imminent, until a wolf saved her. Upon waking, she met Ronan, who seemed to want her as she was, until he asked her to make the biggest change of all.

Momma Says: 4 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐
Okay, so I'm not a big fan of instalove, but when you bring in shifters and fated mates, it makes sense. That's the case here when Ronan and Autumn meet. Ronan is all alpha male until he's around Autumn. Then, he's sugary sweet and says all the right things. Autumn's body issues are a little over the top, but honestly, her self-image problems aren't any different than so many women with curves, especially in today's society. I did like that Ronan was quick to assure her that she was perfect for him. The overall angst is relatively low, and things are resolved quickly. Some of that low-angst feel comes from the reader getting both Autumn and Ronan's points of view, so even when one is worried about the other, we know what's going on. Our villain comes in the form of Autumn's current, then ex-boyfriend, Joel, who is a jerk from the beginning. In fact, if I had to pick one thing that I didn't care for in the story, it would be Joel's character. He's so far out there with his insults and controlling nature that he's almost caricature like. That aside, the book is an amusing read filled with fated mate romance, and some fun sibling banter by way of Ronan's family. It's fast-paced and a really good palate cleanser when you're coming down from something heavy and emotional.
